I thought this picture would be a nice way to segway myself back into blogging. Pictured with me above is the newest member of the Henderson family; Bella. Bella has been with us since Christmas and as you can see she fits right in. Brantley and I found Bella with the help of our good friend Mark and brought her home to surprise Alania at Christmas time. Bella has truly been a lively and loving addition to our family. During the first half of this year, she has helped Alania and I get through our final semester as students in masters degree programs. I am happy to report that at the end of the spring semester, Alania graduated with a Masters in Healthcare Administration from Florida Atlantic University and I graduated with a Masters of Divinity from Liberty University. We have both been studying for the past several years in pursuance of these degrees as God has led us to stretch ourselves in becoming more competent in our fields. Neither of us could have imagined the exciting, difficult, and fulfilling things that God would do when we fully surrendered our careers to Him several years ago. But, here we are. Life in 2019 is, if anything, NOT boring. Pastoring an English-speaking international church in Central America continues to be an adventure. Alania has now founded Open Hands, a non-profit aimed at expanding preventative dental care and education to populations at need here in Honduras. This has proven to be God’s next step for her to use her abilities and experience for His glory. She is growing as a professional, a follower of Christ, and an international person. I’m so thankful that God has given me such a friend for the journey of life. Next month we will celebrate our 22nd wedding anniversary! In addition to what is going on with Alania and I here in Honduras, Brantley just finished his junior year of college at Jacksonville State University and will enter his senior year in the fall. Brantley is living in Jacksonville, AL as he studies and works. As Brantley continues to grow into adulthood, we cherish our time with him. He was here for Christmas and we did spend some time with him on his spring break when we were in the U.S. We look forward to his summer visit next month.
Another major aspect of our life at this time is the continuation of Spanish language proficiency. This is honestly one of the most challenging endeavors we have ever undertaken. We have grown to what I would call a functional proficiency. However, we still are learning everyday with the goal to one day call ourselves fluent.
So, there’s a brief update on the Hendersons here in June 2019. We continue to be amazed at the adventures God takes us on as we follow him on our faith journey. Thanks to all of you who pray, encourage, and support us.
